Disney’s The Little Mermaid

September 8 & 9 – 7pm

September 10 – 2pm

Tickets: $15 – $20

Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. Ariel, King Triton’s youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above, bargaining with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.

The Marion Cultural and Civic Center Foundation, established in 1982, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and serves as a main component of fundraising for the Marion Cultural and Civic Center. While this premier facility is an entity of the City of Marion, many aspects of the center are not funded via city revenue. The foundation exists to fill the gap in funding. As a result of our membership and generous supporters throughout the years, the foundation has been able to generate funds on behalf of the Cultural and Civic Center allowing for improvements that might not otherwise be possible. Improvements in the past have included lighting, sound, fixtures, and concession equipment upgrades.

As a community we are extremely fortunate to have a facility of this caliber in our area. The foundation would love to see you join our efforts to ensure that the Cultural and Civic Center flourishes for many years to come and allow future generations the opportunity to perform and attend Southern Illinois' finest Cultural and Fine Arts venue! Illinois state law now requires that every private-sector employer that has been in business for at least 2 years and that had 5 or more Illinois employees last year must offer their own qualified retirement plan or facilitate the Illinois Secure Choice retirement savings program. In this session, the Illinois State Treasurer’s Office will cover the specifics of the state law and provide an overview of how Illinois Secure Choice works and how easy it is for businesses to facilitate retirement savings for their employees. This session, led by Christine Cheng and Jaimee Niles, is open to chamber professionals and chamber members.

Bios: Christine Cheng serves as Director of Secure Choice for the Illinois State Treasurer’s Office. In her role, she oversees implementation and expansion of Illinois Secure Choice to improve retirement savings access for private-sector workers, helping to ensure that more Illinoisans can retire with dignity. Jaimee Niles is the Illinois relationship manager for Ascensus, the third-party administrator for the Illinois Secure Choice program. In her role, she is the key point of contact for employers as they learn about and facilitate the Illinois Secure Choice program. Skyline Creek Productions

Last In Line

with special guests PARALANDRA

September 17

7pm

Tickets: $35 – $65

Skyline Creek Productions presents LAST IN LINE (feat. original DIO members) – Vivian Campbell (Def Leppard), Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath), Phil Soussan (Ozzy Osbourne), Andrew Freeman (The Offspring)

LAST IN LINE: Featuring Original DIO members. Come experience DIO classics, like “HOLY DIVER”, and “RAINBOW IN THE DARK”,  performed by original members of the band, as well as new originals from their new project which are sure to blow you away!

Last In Line was formed in 2011, when Vinny Appice, Jimmy Bain, and Vivian Campbell (Ronnie James Dio’s co-conspirators and co-writers on the “Holy Diver”, “Last In Line” – thealbum from which they took their name, and “Sacred Heart” albums) teamed up with esteemed vocalist Andrew Freeman. The debut album “Heavy Crown” was released in February 2016, landing at #1 on the Billboard Heat-Seekers Chart. Initially, the release had been preceded by tragedy when bassist Jimmy Bain unexpectedly passed away at the age of 68 on January 23, 2016. Last In Line, honoring what they knew would be Bain’s wish to keep the band moving, brought in renowned bassist Phil Soussan (ex-Ozzy Osbourne) and committed to sustained touring in support of the album, hitting festivals, headlining clubs, and sharing the stage with metal luminaries such as Saxon and Megadeth.

In late 2017, the band gathered in L.A. to start the recording of the second album, which was produced by the band members and Jeff Pilson (Foreigner, The End: machine, ex-Dokken), who also produced the debut album. Having really gelled as a band while touring in support of the debut album, the songwriting came readily to the members. They’ve created a record that shows a big progression in sound, while immediately being recognizable as Last In Line thanks to Vinny Appice’s rhythms, thunderous bass from Phil Soussan, amazing vocals from Andrew Freeman, and the roaring guitars of Vivian Campbell.

“The musical style of ‘II’ is different from ‘Heavy Crown’, but it wasn’t something that we planned to do,” explains Vivian Campbell. “Phil is a more intricate player than Jimmy was and that, together with the natural growth and development of the band led us to the songs on the album. As always, we simply started to jam on ideas and see where they led us. But it’s fair to say that the songs on this album sound more developed, with more parts and more experimentation than the songs on ‘Heavy Crown’. The first album set a tone, but on ‘II’ we developed that idea and took it to the next logical stage.”

Drummer Vinny Appice, on the sound of the new record and song writing process, says “I always sound like me. Viv and I have been playing together for years and have the same feeling, pulse and attitude. Now with Phil on bass, he allows a more melodic approach on the bassparts making the songs even more interesting. He fits in perfectly being from the same musical family and time as me and Viv. Mr. Freeman sings from his soul and completes the band’s sound with his melodies and amazing range.”

He continues, “the songwriting process was the same as DIO’s ‘Holy Diver’. First, we have fun writing together. We get in a room and jam on riffs and chords until we hit on something good, then continue to build it into a song. Andy puts his magic on it and it all works out very well.” Asked about the first single ‘Landslide’, Vocalist Andrew Freeman Says, “’Landslide’ was the first song we wrote for this record. It was really easy to write as all of the parts fell into place quickly. The title ‘Landslide’ is a metaphor relating to the day to day struggles that we all go through as people. Trying to keep on course when dealing with adversity, manipulation through media and leadership. It’s meant to inspire strength and resolve.” Phil Soussan says about how it was joining Last In Line, and the development of the songs, “It was refreshing to be able to write songs in such an organic fashion – by jamming and developing ideas as a group, without bringing in preconceived songs – something I haven’t done for ages. The result was a true collaboration, a concept that is so rare these days! Vinny has a unique style of drumming that, beyond keeping beats, inspires riffs and arrangements and Vivian has a way of playing that has a conviction to every note. He is able to turn every riff into a signature. Andrew was creative and unrestricted, focusing his contemporary influences into vocal stylings and hooks that are outside the classic rock clichés. He is very much a perfectionist. Beyond trying to remain true to Jimmy’s playing and to the heritage of the relationship between Viv and Vinny, everyone was completely open to exploring any possible idea. I am honestly prouder of our efforts on this album than anything in which I have been involved in for a very long time.  With ‘II’ I would like to think that we have stretched out from ‘Heavy Crown ’to test some uncharted waters…. the evolution of Last in Line!”

About The Collingsworth Family

Excitement, spiritual anointing, family-emphasis, and musical excellence are what you can expect to find when you step across the threshold of the auditorium for an Evening of Family Worship and Praise with The Collingsworth Family.

Since their first engagement together as musicians for a church camp in Petersburg, Michigan in August, 1986 until now, the ministry God has given Phil & Kim has expanded and flourished until it is a full-time livelihood that involves their entire family. Their boundaries of influence have expanded until they have sung and played all over the United States (as well as internationally) into their 36th year of ministry. Their constant, persistent attention to cutting-edge arranging, musical excellence, and a proper balance of spiritual emphasis are the keys to success God has helped them tap.

Phil & Kim’s actual base of ministry began during their college days. Phil is a 1986 graduate of God’s Bible School & College, Cincinnati, OH. This is the famous, 100+ year old college that is well-known within Christian education ranks for having been the American college where Oswald Chambers (“My Utmost For His Highest”) taught. Phil also completed professional trumpet studies at College Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati and earned a Bachelor of Sacred Music degree with a double major in trumpet performance and music education. Kim attended Union Bible College, Westfield, IN where she was very instrumental in arranging most of the music that was performed by the college’s traveling music groups.

Since that time, many ministry opportunities have come across their pathway. They have always maintained a public performance ministry, which for the first fourteen years included doing music presentations for church camps and extended-length revival campaigns. They have also held the positions of Ministers of Music, Hobe Sound Bible Church, Hobe Sound, FL; Director, Music Division, Union Bible College, Westfield, IN; and Phil was Dean of Enrollment Management at his Alma Mater, God’s Bible School & College, Cincinnati, OH.

In January, 2000, Phil & Kim transitioned to a new, all-concert ministry. They began recording professionally and currently utilize America’s top-selling choral arranger, Bradley Knight (Dallas, TX) as their primary producer. This new emphasis began to expand their boundaries rapidly. Their home has seen the addition of four children across the years and the children are now very actively involved in the ministry. Their two oldest daughters are quite proficient on the violin and play at each of their concerts. Their entire family sings together in an ensemble. Kim is well-known for her phenomenal mastery of the piano and the extraordinary talent God has given her is a part of each concert, as well as trumpet solos from Phil.

On February 1, 2019, they signed an exclusive booking agreement with JEFF ROBERTS & ASSOCIATES of Hendersonville, TN, which now represents them in all personal appearances. Then, on April 12, 2021, The Collingsworth Family signed a recording agreement with Gaither Music Group, Nashville, TN which now markets their recordings internationally, both digitally and physically, via GMG’s agreement with UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP/CAPITOL CHRISTIAN as exclusive distributor.  This new agreement also added The Collingsworth Family to appear regularly on the GAITHER GOSPEL HOUR’s internationally syndicated television shows, distributed to more than a dozen commercial television networks.

Their ministry is featured regularly on the nation’s largest gospel music syndicated radio program, The Gospel Greats with Rodney Baucom.  Their music is also regularly featured on XM/Sirius Satellite Radio’s Enlighten Channel 65, GMT (Gospel Music Television), The DayStar Television Network, INSP, and is featured each year, at Christmas, in prime-time specials on the Trinity Broadcasting Television Network. The Collingsworth Family has appeared on many of the Gaither’s Homecoming Series live concert events around the nation, making appearances with  the Gaithers in some of their largest venues in the US and Canada, as well as taping many of their filming events at the Grand Ole Opry, Nashville, TN; The Billy Graham Library, Charlotte, NC; and at their hometown studio, Alexandria, IN.  The CFam Personal Appearance Schedule shows the broad appeal their family emphasis has, performing in all types of venues across the US, the Cayman Islands, Sweden, Norway, Canada, etc.  They annually make appearances at The Brooklyn Tabernacle, Brooklyn NY; The Billy Graham Training Center, Asheville, NC; Shadow Mountain Community Church, El Cajon, CA; and at many festivals and celebrations such as The Great Smokies PraiseFest, Sevierville, TN; Branson PraiseFest, Branson, MO; The National Quartet Convention, Pigeon Forge, TN; Gaither’s Family Fest, Gatlinburg, TN; etc.

The rapid expansion they have seen occur with the transition to an all-concert ministry is a direct result of the emphasis they have placed on the power of prayer. Each Tuesday evening, they hold a private prayer meeting in their home for the specific purpose of praying for the salvation of their children and the expansion of their ministry. Since the beginning of these weekly prayer meetings in 2000, the doors of opportunity for ministry have opened to them, crossing all evangelical denominational boundaries. Phil & Kim’s entire purpose is to give the talent God has loaned them back to their Creator as a sacrifice of praise.

Chubby Checker is one AMAZING musician!  His shows are historic throwbacks to the origin of Rock and Roll with EVERY song being a classic!!  As he performs one of his iconic songs the place always goes up for grabs.

This will be a very Special night has Chubby will hold a Dance Contest – join Chubby on stage and dance to “The Twist” for a chance to win $100 prize, plus VIP tickets to another upcoming Dynasty Entertainment Show and a Gift Certificate for dinner at O’Charley’s Restaurant and Bar! Judging the contest will be Chubby Checker and 2 local well known guests to be announced the night of the show. Make sure you bring your dancing shoes!

Crowds are usually a mixed age because Chubby Checker crosses all age barriers with his music. It’s like a fine piece of art that gets handed down generation to generation. Chubby’s appearance hasn’t changed much either. He is the iconic entertainer with the big personality. Still today he gets everyone on their feet for the majority of his shows! Chubby injects happiness to his crowd like most others cannot.

Billboard honored Chubby Checker in 2008 by proclaiming that “The Twist” is the # 1 Record of all time, on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. That was reiterated in the Magazine again, in 2013 & 2015.

For the First time ever, The Twist has been refurbished from the Original Master Tapes – Remixed & Mastered. The New Release of Chubby Checker’s “The Twist,” has all the vibe of the original 45. The big difference is in the Sonics, which exhibits a Sound that’s up to date for the digital era & just plain Rockin’ on the Big Speakers or on an iPhone.

In 1962, “Pony Time” was a #1 hit that was on the charts for 16 weeks, and Chubby starred in two movies: “Don’t Knock the Twist” and “Twist Around the Clock.” For the first time in record history, “The Twist” re-entered the charts and, by January of 1962, it was #1 again on the Billboard charts. Chubby Checker merchandise was everywhere: t-shirts, shoes, ties, dolls, even chewing gum! More huge hits followed: “The Fly,” “Let’s Twist Again,” “The Limbo Rock, “and he won the Grammy for Best Rock Performance. He is the only act to ever have 5 albums in the top 12 at the same time.

A Rock and Roll piece of history!

Bite of Reality is a hands-on app based simulation that appeals to teens while giving them a taste of real-world financial realities. Teens are given a fictional occupation, salary, credit score, spouse and a child, student loan debt, credit card debt, and medical insurance payments. The teens then walk around to various table-top stations to “purchase” housing, transportation, food, clothing, and other needs. Fortunately, the game also includes a “credit union” to help with their financial needs.

This interactive activity will teach teens how to make financial decisions and give them a better understanding of the challenges of living on a budget. Teens will have to deal with a pushy “car salesperson” and a commission-based “realtor,” and weigh their wants versus their needs. There’s even a “Fickle Finger of Fate” that will give the students unexpected “expenses” or “windfalls”—just like in real life.

We are excited to partner with SIU Credit Union and the Marion High School to bring this event in-person to MHS students on September 29th. The event will take place during the PE period, so you'll be interacting with various age groups and backgrounds. Morning and Afternoon shifts are available with 4+ people working per shift at each expense/information station. Cost information will be provided to you and we would like various Chamber members per industry available. This is a great event to have one-on-one interaction with students and get to know the consumers of tomorrow!

Expense / Information Stations include:
  • Housing
  • Transportation
  • Food
  • Child Care
  • Entertainment – activities, vacations
  • Household Needs – furnishings
  • Clothing / Personal Care
  • Shopping – phone, TV, charitable donations
  • Credit Union / Bank
Floater shifts are also available for trouble shooting and helping students go to all the stations in the time allowed.

Tribute to Merle Haggard “My Dad”

Sponsored by

River Radio

Best Western Hotel – Marion

The Marion Star

O’Charley’s Restaurant and Bar

Dynasty Entertainment LLC and Marion Cultural & Civic Center are proud to announce Tribute to Merle Haggard “My Dad” starring Marty Haggard.

There are few musicians and singers who have such a revolutionary impact on the world of music as Merle Haggard. His lyrics and songwriting have influenced everything from bluegrass to rock ‘n roll – and his son Marty shares some of the insight and behind-the-scenes life of what it was like growing up with a world-famous dad.

Marty Haggard performs real country music and also honors his legendary father, Merle Haggard. Marty shares his dad’s songs and his own personal stories of the past.

Marty was born and raised in Bakersfield, California. Of course, everyone knows his Dad, Merle Haggard. Marty considers his dad the greatest singer/songwriter ever and I’m sure a lot of people agree with that. Growing up, Marty was able to travel with his dad and witness the writing and recording of all his great songs. He also had the opportunity to know many of the country greats, like Bob Wills, Lefty Frizzell, and Johnny Cash, just to name a few.

Accompanying Marty is a five-piece band that helps recreate the sounds and songs of Merle Haggard. With Marty’s remarkable similarity to his father’s voice, he entertains audiences in a 90 minute production that covers the lengthy career of his father.

 “A Show You Can’t Miss!”

“With one of the most famous father’s in country music, Marty Haggard delivers the songs and stories about his legendary father’s (Merle Haggard) music – as only a member of the family could!”

— Rolling Stone

Don’t miss this family friendly show and use this opportunity to share and introduce this wonderful music to your friends, children and grandchildren.
