Scholarship Information

The Marion Chamber of Commerce Foundation awards scholarships based on the amount of money generated by the fundraising efforts from the previous year. The John A. Logan College 1 year Tuition Waiver Scholarship covers tuition and fees for a student attending John A. Logan college up to the amount of $2,500.

Requirements

Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

A completed Application Packet, which includes:

• Print out of the scholarship submission confirmation email. Make sure it includes:
  • Signature of a parent and Guardian. - Signature line will be in confirmation email.
  • Signature of a Marion Chamber of Commerce Member, signed by a member in good standing. (Visit marionillinois.com for a member directory) -  Signature line will be in confirmation email.
• Official High School Transcript, including GPA from Marion High School.
• Official Attendance Report, from student portal.
• A Letter of Recommendation from a teacher, counselor, coach, or employer, who is not related to the applicant
• A maximum 500 word essay or 5 minute video which describes the applicant’s desired profession and career goals, why the applicant has chosen a specific career or profession; the planned course of study that will be pursued in order to meet his/her career goals; activities or additional studies the applicant already has completed or achieved to prepare for his/her chosen major area of study.

Scholarship winners will be asked to attend the May or June membership luncheon at noon on the second Tuesday after they are awarded the scholarship to update our members on their accomplishments. While their attendance is not required, it is highly recommended.  

Disbursement

The scholarship will be awarded when the recipient has successfully registered for classes at John A. Logan College. The scholarship is for 15 semester hours maximum for the Fall 2024 semester. Proof of registration must be dropped off to the Marion Chamber of Commerce office at 2305 West Main St. in Marion. The scholarship payment is made directly to John A. Logan College.
 
The student must maintain a 2.0 grade point average while enrolled in college and must be enrolled and maintain a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.
