About Sister City Cultural Exchange
Since 2010, Marion has taken part in a Sister City program to provide global connections and exchanges between the international city of Kanie Town, Japan and the residents of Marion, IL.  Regardless of the 6,000 mile distance, this relationship has grown stronger over the years. Each year, the communities schedule alternating visits to learn about business, education, and cultural differences.   

The visiting delegations are made up of leaders and students from each community.  The students stay with host families, enabling them to take in as much culture as possible.

The 2023 Sister City Cultural Exchange Trip to Japan is scheduled for June 19 - 26. This event would not possible without the support of our partner organizations. Donations to the Sister City Exchange Trip are used to subsidize the student airfare tickets.  Airfare for this year's trip is around $2,400 per person.(adults pay for their own hotel and airfare)

Donations for the Sister City Trip can be made out to the Marion Chamber of Commerce Foundation. The Foundation was created in 2015 to provide scholarships and educational experiences for Marion High School Students.
