Bite of Reality is a hands-on app based simulation that appeals to teens while giving them a taste of real-world financial realities. Teens are given a fictional occupation, salary, credit score, spouse and a child, student loan debt, credit card debt, and medical insurance payments. The teens then walk around to various table-top stations to “purchase” housing, transportation, food, clothing, and other needs. Fortunately, the game also includes a “credit union” to help with their financial needs.

This interactive activity will teach teens how to make financial decisions and give them a better understanding of the challenges of living on a budget. Teens will have to deal with a pushy “car salesperson” and a commission-based “realtor,” and weigh their wants versus their needs. There’s even a “Fickle Finger of Fate” that will give the students unexpected “expenses” or “windfalls”—just like in real life.

We are excited to partner with SIU Credit Union and the Marion High School to bring this event in-person to MHS students on March 9th. The event will take place during the PE period, so you'll be interacting with various age groups and backgrounds. Morning and Afternoon shifts are available with 4+ people working per shift/expense or information station.  Cost information will be provided to you and we would like various Chamber members per industry available. This is a great event to have one-on-one interaction with students and get to know the consumers of tomorrow!

Expense / Information Stations include:
  • Housing
  • Transportation
  • Food
  • Child Care
  • Entertainment – activities, vacations
  • Household Needs – furnishings
  • Clothing / Personal Care
  • Shopping – phone, TV, charitable donations
  • Credit Union / Bank
Floater shifts are also available for trouble shooting and helping students go to all the stations in the time allowed.

Sean Darke from Dykema will moderate the virtual panel discussion on “The Good, Bad, and Ugly of BIPA!” As litigation continues to explode in BIPA, Dykema has assembled a panel to discuss the recent changes to BIPA and recent case law that continues to shape BIPA for companies and legislatures across the country. Concerning is that over 1,000 BIPA lawsuits involve every day workplace issues like time tracking and employee verification. Although we see the ugly in BIPA through litigation, this panel will discuss the positives of biometrics that have been lost during this litigation explosion and how companies should not shy away from using this amazing technology. The panel will also discuss the future of biometrics and the much needed BIPA reform. Join Sean Darke and panel members Abad Lopez from Dykema, Doug O’Gordon from Find Biometrics, and Jake Parker from The Security Industry Association as they explore the “Good, Bad, and Ugly of BIPA!”

The Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers Act will make Illinois just the third state to pass a law mandating paid leave for ALL employees for any reason. While the law does not go into effect until January 1, 2024, now is the time to review your current policies and practices and consider what you will need to do to be in compliance with this new law. Among other things, this new law raises a number of questions for employers, including:

1. What does the new Illinois law on paid leave require?
2. Does my organization fall into any exceptions?
3. How does this state law affect the Cook County and Chicago
paid sick leave ordinances that my company is already subject to?

In this webinar, we will tackle these questions, along with a refresher on Cook County and Chicago ordinance requirements for paid sick leave, as well as practical pointers on how to best implement and administer this new leave in conjunction with or in addition to your current leave policies.

Continuing Education Offered: 1.50 HRCI, 1.50 SHRM, 1.50 CLE submitted per attendee request prior to event, 1.50 CPE, and 1.50 HR & Management/Supervision Compliance Credits.HR Certification Institute’s® (www.HRCI.org) official seal confirms that the Illinois Chamber meets the criteria for pre-approved recertification credit(s) for any of HRCI’s eight credentials, including SPHR® and PHR®.

The Red Hot Chilli Pipers

March 19

7:30pm

Tickets: $35 – $67

Sponsored by WSIL TV 3 and River Radio

The Red Hot Chilli Pipers

Bagpipers who Rock!

“These are my boys!” exclaimed Sir PaulMcCartney after rocking out to a Chilli performance.

“Awesome!” said film star Ewen McGregor after he guested on drums with the Chillis

“Gotta get me some of that Red Hot Chilli Pipers!  I WANT some!” tweeted actor Samuel Jackson after seeing the band perform on NBC in the summer of 2012

Bagpipes with attitude.  Drums with a Scottish accent. A blazing rock band and show so hot, it carries its own health warning!

It’s Bagpipes. It’s Rock. It’s Bagrock. AC/DC meets the poet Robert Burns. Where rock anthems sit comfortably alongside the great tunes from the glens and the mountains of Scotland.

It’s The Red Hot Chilli PIPERS – (NOT the Peppers!) — a 9-piece ensemble consisting of pipersguitaristskeyboards, and drummers — who have been rocking the world from New York to Beijing to Melbourne and everywhere in between with musicianship of the highest order and a passion for pipes that will leave you breathless.  The band has four music degrees from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and all the pipers and drummers have played at the top level in bagpiping.

Since they walked away with the top prize on the primetime TV talent show, “When Will I Be Famous” in the U.K. in 2007, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers haven’t stopped for a breath, other than to inflate their bagpipes!  Formed in 2002, The Chillis have fast become a global phenomenon, taking their signature ‘Bagrock’ sound to the masses with their unique fusion of rocked up Bagpipes and clever covers of popular songs from all genres.  Their trademarked sound is a unique fusion of traditional pipe tunes – like “The Flowers of Scotland”, “The Hills of Argyll”, and “Amazing Grace” (done Chilli-style, of course!) — and contemporary anthems like Queen’s “We Will Rock You”, “Clocks” by Coldplay, “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol, “Let Me Entertain You” by Robbie Williams, and a fantastic rock medley of “Deep Purple”, “Smoke on the Water”, and AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck”.

Fun facts about the Chillis:

  • Over 2.5 million views on YouTube of their viral cover of the Avicci track ‘Wake Me Up’
  • Gold record for over 100,000 UK sales of their first album “Bagrock to the Masses”
  • Triple platinum album status for third album and DVD – “Blast Live”
  • Awarded twice for “Best Live Act in Scotland”
  • Sold out tours in the UK, USA, China Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Denmark, France, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Ukraine, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and India
  • Regular performances for A-List showbiz, sports stars and royalty – including Ewan McGregor, Sir Paul McCartney, Gary Player, Samuel Jackson and Her Majesty the Queen
  • Over 350,000 Facebook followers and a very active Twitter following of thousands of fans

An Evening with Amy Grant

March 21

7pm

Tickets: $49.99 – $149.99

Brought to you by

River Radio

Z-100

Holiday Inn Express & suites

Conventional wisdom has it that Amy Grant put Contemporary Christian Music on the map, becoming the first CCM artist to have a platinum record, the first to hit No. 1 on the Pop charts, and the first to perform at the GRAMMY Awards. Since then, Grant has been strumming her way through a thirty-plus year adventure as a singer-songwriter, author, television host, and speaker.

Early on, Grant’s iconic voice became instantly recognizable in both the Christian and pop worlds. Over the years, she has sold more than 30 million albums world-wide, including three multi-platinum, six platinum, and four gold. Her chart performance has also been consistent throughout her career, boasting six No. 1 hits, 10 “Top 40” Pop singles, 17 “Top 40” Adult Contemporary tracks and multiple Contemporary Christian chart-toppers. In recognition of such success, Grant has received 6 GRAMMY Awards and 26 Dove Awards, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and a star on the Music City Walk of Fame. Additionally, she was most recently inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in Nashville.

Stepping out from behind her guitar, Grant found herself hosting the NBC prime time series “Three Wishes” in 2005, bringing her into millions of living rooms across America every Friday night. The people she met and stories she collected proved to be great inspiration for creating new music and even writing a book. Two years later, Grant’s first book, Mosaic: Pieces of My Life So Far, was published. She continues to share her stories with audiences all over the country as a keynote and inspirational speaker.

In April 2016, Grant celebrated the 25th anniversary of her first pop hit, “Baby Baby”, with a worldwide release of a new version of the song featuring pop sensation and fellow Capitol Music Group recording artist Tori Kelly. Growing her wildly popular Christmas brand, Grant then released “Tennessee Christmas” in October 2016, her first all-new Christmas album in nearly twenty years. She looks forward to national arena symphony Christmas tours each November and December with long-time friend Michael W. Smith, as well as an annual Christmas residency at the world-famous Ryman Auditorium in Nashville with country superstar husband Vince Gill.

Grant resides with her family in Nashville, Tennessee, and is widely known for her philanthropy and tireless involvement in local causes and charitable organizations. Her own organization, The Helping Hands Foundation, has afforded her the opportunity to identify needs around her and the resources to help meet them, which has proven to be the sweetest reward of all.
