Please join the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity for a conversation around how local financial institutions can partner with the State of Illinois to drive small business growth and access to capital for minority owned businesses. Advantage Illinois provides low interest loans to small businesses in Illinois for start-up costs, working capital, equipment and inventory. Learn how your bank can participate in this program using your own underwriting standards and loan processes. Through the American Rescue Plan, the State Small Business Credit initiative (SSBCI), recently received an increase in funding to help bolster access to capital in Minority Communities, the only way we can be successful is through a robust banking network.

PROGRAM: Paving the Way into the Future
Mark Wece, Highway Construction Careers Training Program (HCCTP) Coordinator at John A Logan College

HCCTP was established by Illinois Department of Transportation in 2009 to help increase the number of minorities, females and disadvantaged individuals working on IDOT highway construction projects.  The program consists of 450 hours of intensive training in both a classroom and hands-on environment.  Students take a “Math for the Trades” class, a Job/Life Skills class that teaches them how to prepare a resume, create a personal portfolio, and practice their interview skills.  The hands-on portion of the training typically involves pouring concrete sidewalks, constructing playgrounds, dog parks, pole barns, and just about any other community project we can find.  This type of learning environment prepares the students to learn the skills necessary to apply into the various highway construction trades as an apprentice.

About our Speaker: Mark Wece, is the Highway Construction Careers Training Program (HCCTP) Coordinator at John A Logan College.  He spent 33 years working for Illinois Department of Transportation as a draftsman, surveyor, construction inspector, Resident Technician on numerous road and bridge construction projects, and as an Operations Supervisor maintaining state roadways. After retiring from IDOT in October of 2018, I began as HCCTP Coordinator for John A Logan College in November 2018.

EVENT AGENDA:

  • Welcome from Chamber Leadership & Invocation
  • Luncheon Speaker Presentation
  • Luncheon Program
  • Quick update from the Chamber Committees
  • Member Network and Updates

This month's luncheon sponsor is Dominion Investigations.
