Event Description
The Southern Illinois Earth Science Club will hold its annual Gem, Mineral, Fossil, and Jewelry Show at the Pavilion of the City of Marion in Marion, Illinois on:Saturday, April 15, 2023, from 10 am. to 6 pm.
Sunday, April 16th, 2023, from 10 am. to 5 pm.
The Pavilion is located behind the Illinois Centre Mall off Rt. 13 and west of I-57.
This is the only club-sponsored Gem and Mineral show south of
Springfield.
Admission is $2 for adults (exact change strongly encouraged and greatly appreciated) and children 18 and under free.
There is ample free parking on site.
It is an educational as well as an entertaining event. Club members from all over Southern Illinois will have many interesting exhibits for the whole family to see.
Returning this year will be an exhibit of fossils from the Middle Tennessee Museum of Natural History. Some of the items they have brought to earth science shows will be real and museum-quality replica casts of T-Rex skull, Dire wolf skull. Saber-tooth cat skull, etc. The museum will also have related items from their gift shop.
The Ben E. Clement Mineral Museum will have an educational exhibit of some of their fantastic fluorite and information about their museum.
There will be exhibits of minerals, fossils, Indian artifacts, gemstones, jewelry, shells, and lapidary work. There will be working demonstrations of lapidary skills, jewelry making, gem tree making, and arrowhead making.
Numerous silent auctions will be held and door prizes awarded.
Selected dealers will have items for sale relating to the gem and mineral hobby.
Spin n win for the kids!
This is an event for the whole family.
Rock-hounds of all ages will have a fun time.
