The workshop is designed to engage community leaders and share information about opportunities for regional economic diversification and growth in the Illinois Basin in response to coal mines and power plant closures. The Illinois Basin is one of six regions in the nation identified as most vulnerable to further declines in coal-related employment. The IWG believes that all of these communities deserve access to high-quality jobs, reliable broadband, good roads, clean water, and affordable transportation.
