The Marion Chamber Legislative Affairs Committee would like to invite you to a informational discussion about the Illinois Safety, Accountability, Fairness and Equity-Today (SAFE-T) Act.  We'll hear from local stakeholders and protection agencies to provide insight for your business or organization. The primary audience for this presentation are business owners and organizations. Future discussions for the public about the SAFE-T Act will be presented by additional groups in the coming months.

Please register to take part in the October 5th presentation. If time allows, a short Q&A session will take place.  You have the opportunity to pre-submit questions with your registration, otherwise cards will be available at the event.

Details

Williamson County States Attorney, Marcy Cascio-Hale is a native of the Rockford area. She graduated from SIUC's School of Law in 2009 with her Juris Doctorate degree and a year later earned her Master of Laws degree. Since relocating to Southern Illinois in 2006, her 13 years of experience as a lawyer has aided in her role as a research attorney for the Fifth District Appellate Court in conjunction with the Jackson County Public Defender's Office, her volunteer work at SIU, and with the Dispute Resolution Institute. 

As Senator for the 59th Senate District, Dale Fowler is an unwavering advocate for the growth, development and prosperity of the residents, communities and businesses in Southern Illinois.

Senator Fowler serves as the Republican Spokesperson for the Senate Higher Education Committee and the Commerce Committee. Senator Fowler is also a member of the Education, Energy & Public Utilities, Revenue and Transportation committees. Full Bio...


 

The Marion Police Department is responsible for the investigation of all criminal incidents, traffic collisions, special traffic enforcement, and planning for special events.  It is also responsible for the enforcement of city ordinances regarding animals. The Police Department functions as an educational resource for area agencies and schools. The Police Department also coordinates and conducts crime prevention programs and educational programs to the community.

Police Chief David Fitts is a Marion native with 30 years of law enforcement experience.  Fitts started out with the Williamson County Sheriff’s office and later spent more than two decades with Illinois State Police. This included being part of the Illinois State Police SWAT for 15 years and an instructor at the Illinois State Police Academy. He also served as director of the Southern Illinois Enforcement Group, a group dedicated to drug crimes, for more than four years. He was also in the U.S. Army Reserve for six years. He joined the Marion Police Department as Chief in the spring of 2019. He is honored to serve the citizens of Marion and is proud of the officers who serve within his department. 

Officer Chris Fozzard has been in Law Enforcement since 2005 and served multiple positions during that time to include: Patrolman, Traffic Safety Unit, Traffic Crash Investigation, Narcotics, SWAT, Firearms Instructor, and Field Trainer.  Along with working at the Marion Police Department, he is also a part time instructor for the Mobile Training Unit #15 and the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System teaching multiple Law Enforcement classes. 



The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Williamson County Sheriff's Office is commanded by Lieutenant Karl Gusentine.  

The division consists of a squad of criminal investigators (detectives) that do follow-up investigations on crimes such as homicide, rape, robbery, burglary and forgery. The squad has 4 criminal investigators.


State Representative Patrick Windhorst is a southern Illinois native and currently serving his second term in the Illinois House. Patrick represents Illinois' 118th House District. He was first elected in November 2018, taking office in January 2019. 

Presently, Patrick serves on several key House Committees including Appropriations - Human Services, Ethics and Elections, Judiciary Civil Law, Judiciary Criminal Law, Restorative Justice, and Sentencing, Penalties, and Criminal committees. Through these committee assignments, Patrick advocates for conservative principles to uphold the rule of law, protect Second Amendment rights, and strengthen the state's ethics laws.  Full Bio...
