The City of Marion would like to announce a Downtown Christmas to be held on Saturday and Sunday, December 14th and 15th around the historic Tower Square from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. each day. The festivities will include ice skating, carriage rides, food vendors, classic Christmas music, and, of course, Santa Claus. In addition, the various shops and restaurants around the Square will also be open.
“This is a unique opportunity to highlight the natural beauty of our downtown area during a special time of year,” said Mayor Mike Absher. He continued, “We have so many great businesses downtown that we want to encourage folks to patronize, so what better way to support shopping local than bringing people here and having some fun while we’re at it.”
No taxpayer funds were used in bringing this event to Marion, and funds raised from this year’s event will go to support the event next year. The event is weather-permitting and there will be fees of $10 for adults and $5 for children for ice skating which includes the skate rental, and $10 per family for carriage rides. The food vendors will also be for a fee.
